A deserted island in the Galapagos

About Us

My husband and I both grew up in the same small town and - while it was a lovely place to grow up and experience all the joys of childhood-  a chance to see Paris and study abroad in the South of France while in High School changed everything for me.  It opened my eyes to a whole new world that was as exciting as it was terrifying, and I was immediately hooked.  Fortunately, my husband also had the opportunity to host a Spanish exchange student and later travel abroad, and well - the rest is history!  We worked hard to finish college and vowed that we would work even harder at our careers so that we could experience more of the world.  Travel has opened our eyes to new cultures, ways of living, fresh perspectives on life itself and so many other things! It is the secret to our happy marriage because we learn something new about ourselves as individuals - and as a married couple- with every new adventure that we take. We are true believers in collecting experiences, not things - and going outside of our comfort zone!  So once or twice a year, we leave the "rat-race" behind and set off on some new adventure.  We never limit our experiences either - we travel in the US (with our beagle, Bodhi) to pet-friendly towns, take the occasional "haunted" vacation, as well as travel abroad to new and exciting places.  So take a journey with us and learn the do's and dont's that we wish we would've known beforehand about some of these adventures.

International Destinations

  • Australia - Because you don't want to use a Groupon when you're cage diving with massive great white sharks.  You go with the best - Rodney Fox Great White Shark Expeditions in South Australia!  Read our adventure here as well as where we chose to go for the best Great Barrier Reef diving.

  • Galapagos - What a beautiful, amazing adventure where you can leave your cell phone behind and just enjoy nature.  Learn why we chose a local, land-based tour company and some of the things we wish we would've known before going.

  • Costa Rica - Don't just stay in your all-inclusive resort - get out and explore this beautiful country!  We will give you tips on reputable tour guides and places/activities to visit an do. Oh yeah, and we got to meet Norman Reedus from The Walking Dead, who was also vacationing there.

  • France/Belgium/Netherlands - Want to visit Venice but don't want to deal with the crowds or tourist restrictions?  Then visit the "Venice of the North" where it's perfectly acceptable to eat Belgium waffles doused with caramel sauce and ice cream for lunch!

  • Switzerland - For "Alien" fans, visit the town of Gruyeres and the Giger museum and have a drink in the alien-themed bar.  No cars allowed in this quaint, little town...and there is real absinthe to be consumed - and it's legal!

Haunted Vacations

  • Stanley Hotel  (Estes Park, CO) - The ONLY place my husband will truly admit to "maybe" being haunted (the Marshall House is a close second though).  Read about our stays on the infamous haunted 4th floor as well as Room 217 where Stephen King stayed and received his inspiration for "The Shining".

  • Marshall House (Savannah, GA) - Wow, did we get some activity almost every night in this place and even a "shared" ghostly encounter with our neighbors.  Find out which room we stayed in and what happened during our stay.

  • Moon River Brewery (Savannah, GA) - Overnight lock-in with a local, ghost hunting group.  My husband drew the line here with my ghostly adventures and made my Aunt accompany me to this event.  Find out about the group we went with and why I like them as well as what happened or "didn't happen" during this event.

  • Mothman Festival (Point Pleasant, WV) - The weirdest experience yet, but glad I did it.  Learn about this annual festival and what to expect - or not expect...

  • Lizzie Borden B&B (Fall River, MA) - An easy side-trip from Boston, this is a small town with the best tavern for food and DESSERT!  Find out why you might not want to stay in the infamous "murder room" and what we thought of this place and experience.

  • Gettysburg, PA - You don't need to stay in a particular place to get haunted in Gettysburg.  But I can tell you about an amazing B&B where you feel like family AND the field next to them is downright creepy and worth exploring.

  • Trinway House (Trinway, OH) - With roots in the underground railroad, you can rent this entire place out for a night.  While we left thinking that there was no way this place was haunted, a review of our voice recorder revealed a chilling message.

  • Mansfield Reformatory (Mansfield, OH) - This is just a cool place, haunted or not.  I mean, the Shawshank Redemption was filmed here!  But there are a few things you should know if you are going to do one of the overnight ghost tours....

  • West Virginia State Penitentiary (Moundsville, WV) - Definitely a very cool place to visit and creepy just because it's an old prison with a violent past.  Find out what to expect when doing an overnight ghost tour.

  • Hilton Nederland (Cincinnati, OH) - Yes, this place always comes up in listing of most haunted hotels.  Find out why I didn't sleep all night (even though the place is gorgeous, charming, and the hotel rooms very accommodating).

STORM CHASING ADVENTURES

Storm Chasing Adventures -  Probably not something you should do on your own unless you're an expert in the field.  I'll tell you who I tour with every year and why.  I will also tell you which tours to avoid from word-of-mouth among us hardcore storm chasers.
